RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Description:
When we open to the reciprocity of forgiveness, we also enter into an awareness practice that presences understanding, wisdom, and compassion. The complexities of conditioned experience often compel us to defend rather than open our hearts. Forgiveness practice can be the medicine we need to lessen the tight grip of past trauma, grief, fear, anger, judgment, and wounds on ourselves and others. The courage to witness what we hold fast to has the potential to lead us on a journey towards liberation and true freedom.
Join us in exploring how cultivating the spirit of forgiveness, as a heart practice, allows for a reclaiming of our true loving nature. We will explore the practices of forgiveness and letting go, with the primary support of mindfulness, kindness, compassion, equanimity, and gratitude.

RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Description:
Mettā, or lovingkindness practice, is the cultivation of the intention of benevolence as the orientation of our heart and mind. It is also a path to wisdom. Through meditation, which is practiced steadfastly on retreat, we develop our capacity for mettā in order for it to manifest in an ongoing way in our daily lives.
In this retreat, we will learn the formal practice of mettā along with its companion practices of compassion, joy, and equanimity. All four of these practices—known as the brahmavihāras or divine abodes—strengthen self-confidence, self-acceptance, and steadiness of mind and heart, while revealing our fundamental disposition toward kindness. We will be joined on one day of the retreat by Sylvia Boorstein, a beloved long-time teacher of mettā.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Scholarship offerings: All scholarship rates require a minimum fee ($60/night). Scholarships are limited to TWO per calendar year for on-land retreats. RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Description:
Insight Meditation is a simple and direct practice based on moment-to-moment awareness, a technique that opens the heart and clears the mind. This retreat offers an opportunity to practice continuous mindfulness in silence throughout the day, in both sitting and walking meditation. In the silence, we are freed from much of the daily barrage of stimulus that draws our attention outward, letting us delve deeply inward. Learning to be aware of our experience from a place of equanimity allows us to see more clearly, such that compassion and wisdom can arise.
This retreat is designed for beginners and experienced practitioners alike and will include meditation instruction, Dharma talks, chanting, and discussion time with the teachers.

RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Description:
When the late Burmese master Mingun Sayādaw (U Nārada) was a young monk looking for a true teacher, he was told of a mountain hermit who was reported to be fully enlightened. When he asked this monk how he should practice, the monk replied, “Why are you searching outside of the Master’s word?” He went on to say that the direct path—the foundations of mindfulness—was given by the Buddha for those seeking liberation. Mingun Sayādaw followed these instructions with great faith and diligence and realized for himself the path and its fruit.
Mindfulness based in the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta (“The Discourse on the Foundations of Mindfulness”) is the heart of Insight Meditation practice. In this retreat we will follow the “words of the master” and the example of the great teachers of our tradition in practicing the way of mindfulness, which is always here and now and offers each of us a direct path to liberation.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Scholarship offerings: All scholarship rates require a minimum fee ($55/night). Scholarships are limited to TWO per calendar year for on-land retreats. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

In the teaching of Yoga and embodied meditation, Dharma and Yoga are interwoven as one path to awakening. The training includes silent retreat, community connection, and structured support for deepening your personal practice. Our approach is centered on accessible and trauma-informed practices that nourish belonging and provide systematic grounding in the essential practices of these two great traditions.
This program offers 175 CEUs for Yoga teachers through Yoga Alliance.

Participants will:
- Gain skills and understanding in the foundational teachings and practices of Dharma and Insight Meditation
- Advance personal practice and teaching skills in Yoga āsana
- Learn practice and teaching methods that support a loving connection to embodiment, honoring of boundaries, and a sense of belonging
- Refine techniques to support all bodies in āsana
- Gain understanding of how trauma impacts embodied experience
PROGRAM INCLUDES:

- Optional affinity groups
- Small groups
- Written assignments/reflections

COMMITMENT TO BELONGING AND SANGHA BUILDING

We invite participants who are dedicated to creating communities of belonging and spiritual friendship.
PROGRAMS COMPONENTS & REQUIREMENTS

- Maintain a willingness and capacity to interact and engage respectfully with people with different histories, stories, backgrounds, and views than your own
RETREAT FORMAT
The retreats will include periods of silence in meditation, mindful movement, time on the land, and meals. This will be combined with interactive workshop-style sessions—including discussion, small group learning, and Q&A— focused on advancing understanding and skills in the integration of Dharma and Yoga āsana. March
“The Still Heart of Awareness”
Awareness, or consciousness, is the very heart of sentient life, the faculty that reveals all the events of our experience. Yet in our dharma practice we may not have learned how to meditate directly on this fundamental aspect of our minds.
In this retreat we will explore the nature of awareness in three stages. We’ll begin by developing greater stability of mind through mindfulness of breathing. Next we’ll introduce a regular practice of lovingkindness, allowing the beautiful and responsive qualities of heart to unfold. Then, with these foundations, we’ll start to explore the nature of awareness, this mysterious capacity of knowing. These practices open the door to emptiness, profound understanding, and great freedom.
Special Note for 2024: When registering for the 2-Month retreat, please be aware that the March retreat will feature very different themes from the February retreat in the meditation instructions and talks, unlike in prior years. Please read the descriptions carefully for both months before registering. Participants in March will be expected to follow the instructions as offered for that retreat. If you are not interested, the teachers kindly ask that you not sign up for this retreat.

Additional scholarship funding has been offered to support practitioners who self-identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or a Person of color (BIPOC). We have scholarship rates at $55 per night. For the month-long retreats only: Spirit Rock extends the upper age limit of the Young Adult scholarship rate to individuals 18-32 years of age. This special rate is also $55 per night. A limited number of these special YA rates will be available.
If you need scholarship funds to attend, once the application is available, please complete the Scholarship Section; funding may likely not be available later. Scholarship requests do not influence your acceptance.
PLEASE READ – Details on our current COVID Safety Protocols for In-person Retreats. These protocols may or may not change between now and the start of the retreats in 2024. Check this page regularly.

RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Description:
This is a silent retreat designed especially for those relatively new to the practices of Insight Meditation (vipassanā). The retreat includes systematic instructions on vipassanā meditation—both stillness and moving—as well as lovingkindness practices, meetings with teachers, and evening talks highlighting the central teachings of the Buddha and their practical application to our lives.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Scholarship offerings: All scholarship rates require a minimum fee ($65/night). Scholarships are limited to TWO per calendar year for on-land retreats. And, while we are not able to offer “pay what you can”-type of scholarships for in-person retreats, they are still available for online offerings as space allows.
Hemera Fellowships for Residential Retreats – are you eligible and a first-time retreatant? Learn more details…
Room Occupancy: We have double and single occupancy rooms. Many of our rooms are single occupancy (only 16 of 80 rooms are double occupancy). We offer a “guaranteed single room” rate and these will be limited (16). This rate guarantees a single room while helping to support scholarships and all we do here at Spirit Rock. The remaining single rooms are not exclusive to the top end of the sliding scale; however, they are initially prioritized for those with serious medical needs.

RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Open to:
Open to: All Self-identified Women of the Black African Diaspora
Description:
There is a deep well of vibrant and intuitive knowing that is alive in the bone memory of Black Women’s bodies. To recognize and revitalize the innate and beautiful qualities of tenderness, kindness, and joy that reside within the heart is to access the internal protection and ancestral wisdom and strength needed on the arduous journey towards liberation.
During this retreat we will practice silent meditation indoors and in nature. There will be periods of community building and wisdom sharing as well as Dharma talks, embodiment practices, meetings with teachers, and time for reflective, intentional rest to nourish and refresh the mind, heart and body. Through guided practices of self-love, compassion and a deepened connection to nature, we will illuminate the heart of strength and tenderness that resides within us all.
IMPORTANT NOTES:

RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Description:
In the storms of our lives we need refuge, nourishment, and support—a place to replenish our tired bodies and troubled hearts. When the Buddha offered his teachings, his first instruction was to go meditate under a tree. Throughout this retreat, we will practice together in the age-old tradition of being outside in the company of the natural world. We will explore tapping into the natural stillness and dynamism that surrounds us and teaches us. As we integrate stillness and movement, we move toward being active participants in the world while maintaining balance and ease in our hearts and minds.
