This retreat is suitable for both beginners as well as practitioners who would enjoy a refresher overview of the Eightfold Path and the Metta Sutta (Instructions on Impartial Kindness). Periods of didactic (interactive) instruction in a variety of concentration and mindfulness strategies will alternate with periods of silence to allow for contemplative practice. The relationship of ‘techniques of practice’ to the ‘goal of practice’ will be highlighted so that commitment to practice is strengthened. This short retreat will be presented as ongoing practice in order to emphasize that all of life is practice. Mindful movement, suitable for all, will be integrated into the group practice. This three-day “mini” residential retreat will start in the morning on the first day (9:30am) and end mid-afternoon (3:00pm) on the third day.

This LGBTQI Community retreat will be spent cultivating love and loving-kindness (Metta). The practice of loving-kindness was taught by the Buddha to cultivate the natural beautiful qualities of an open and loving heart. The practice begins with ourselves and expands outward for all beings. The cultivation of loving kindness supports a caring and balanced heart that is able to open to all the joys and difficulties of life.
In this day together, there will be instructions and teachings to develop this practice and to work with the challenges that may block the full expression of the heart.
Young Adults (18-26) and Seniors (65+ with limited income) are invited to attend this day for $45.
Online registration for our programs is available until 12 noon of the last business day prior to the day of the event (e.g. online registration for a Monday program ends at 12 noon on the prior Friday). Metta is the Pali term for friendship, goodwill or loving-kindness. In this retreat we will develop metta as a meditation practice, which cultivates our natural capacity for an open and loving heart towards ourselves and all other beings. We will also develop the practices of compassion, joy and equanimity. Metta practice leads to greater acceptance of ourselves and others, revealing our fundamental connectedness to all life. The schedule will include regular periods of mindful movement, as we find this is a helpful complement to the loving-kindness meditation.
Also remember that the cost above is priced as a sliding scale. Please pay at the highest level of the sliding scale that you can afford. This allows others who need to pay less the opportunity to attend. Fee is for room and board. Teaching and staffing of the retreats is by donation at the end of the retreat. For more information, see Retreat FAQ.
