Description:
In this 21st offering of Poetry Day, our usual sitting and walking practices will be informed by periods of reading poetry to each other. Each poem is carefully selected by Phillip Moffitt with an eye toward selections that point us to dharma insights.
Poems of this nature comfort us and inspire us to take our meditation understandings into our daily life such that we see the world through dharma eyes and respond from the dharma heart. This is a day of fun and lightheartedness and if you haven’t ever read a poem in front of others, don’t miss this opportunity to free your voice and find a new form of expression.
Tentative Schedule:
9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Morning Session
12:30 – 2:00 p.m. Lunch Break
2:00 – 4:30 p.m. Afternoon Session

Description:
Change is normal and necessary, but often we are unprepared to manage it skillfully. Research shows that meeting change with mindfulness and having specific tools to navigate uncertainty allows us to experience well-being even when life is challenging.
Change naturally brings up concerns, fears, and questions that can lead to confusion, lack of motivation, or poor decisions. To help you effectively respond to these challenges, during this workshop you will have the opportunity to:
• Use our “Journey through Change Map” to orient yourself in your change.
• Recognize mind habits that undermine you and learn practices to disengage from them.
• Identify your values and intentions so you have a basis for making wise decisions.
• Create a plan for navigating your change.
Expect a weekend full of dynamic inquiry and the opportunity to learn essential life skills for meeting your changes and transitions with authenticity, confidence, and clarity.

RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Prerequisite: Completion of one (or more) 7-day/6-night (or longer) silent, residential or online Insight meditation retreat. If you are new to Nine Bodies, you are also encouraged (but not required) to complete a Nine Bodies Intro series before coming on the retreat.
Description:
The Nine Bodies teaching presents a unified map of the various capacities of consciousness, which are often only partially recognized (or completely unrecognized) even among long-term practitioners. This retreat offers a method for practicing Insight meditation in which consciousness itself becomes the object of meditation.
We will start with establishing mindfulness through the practice of arriving, and then turn toward ever more subtle levels of consciousness. The practice utilizes the felt sense as a means for freeing the mind of over-conceptualization and supporting the arising of liberating insights.
We respectfully acknowledge that this method is an integration of the Nine Bodies teachings from Himalayan yoga master Premvarni Balyogi and Thai Forest Insight teachings.
The retreat will include detailed guided meditations, teaching sessions, and cohort (small group) practice meetings. It is not recommended for practitioners experiencing acute grief or other strong mental challenges.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Scholarship offerings: In returning to the land, we will also be returning to our pre-pandemic scholarship options and policies. All scholarship rates require a minimum fee ($50/night). Scholarships are limited to TWO per calendar year for on-land retreats. And, while we are not able to offer “no one turned away”-type of scholarships for in-person retreats, they are still available for online offerings.
Room Occupancy Update*: Starting with our “Living with Awareness” retreat on March 27, 2022, we will return to double occupancy rooms. Many of our rooms are single occupancy (only 16 of 80 rooms are double occupancy). We will also return to offering a “guaranteed single room” rate and these will be limited (16). This rate guarantees a single room while helping to support scholarships and all we do here at Spirit Rock. The remaining single rooms are not exclusive to the top end of the sliding scale; however, they are initially prioritized for those with serious medical needs.
*Subject to change depending upon COVID-19 situation.
IMPORTANT – Details on our current COVID Safety Protocols for In-person Retreats.

Description:
The Four Noble Truths are the Buddha’s first teaching, said to contain a summary of all of his teachings. Based on one of the oldest Theravāda texts, there is a rarely taught practice of utilizing the Four Noble Truths to attain twelve insights that bring freedom and well-being. These insights prescribe a radically different way for us, with all of our vulnerability and fear, to engage with life just as it is and to find joy even in the midst of suffering.
In this four day silent retreat, we will explore each of the Four Noble Truths in depth and learn how we can apply the insights of this teaching to our daily lives. The goal of this retreat is to discover how the Four Noble Truths become the Four “Ennobling” Truths. Each day will have periods of sitting and walking meditation along with Dharma talks, discussion, and Q&A.
All are welcome! No one will be turned away for lack of funds as space allows. For more information, please email Registration@spiritrock.org.

RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Prerequisite: Completion of at least two 7-night silent residential insight meditation retreats (in-person retreat experience; online retreats are not eligible).
Description:
Concentration, (samādhi), the collection and unification of the mind, was emphasized by the Buddha as one of the aspects of the Eightfold Path. It can bring joy to your practice and lead to the skillful use of pleasure in the meditative process. Whatever your level of practice, you can improve your Insight Meditation (vipassanā) by strengthening your concentration skills. Your ability to concentrate will develop in response to the attention you give it.
This retreat will offer a series of techniques for staying on the meditation object for extended periods of time. We will explore the factors of concentration that lead to the deep absorption states known as jhanas. Teachers will also give instruction for utilizing concentration during Insight practice.
