Dates: Tuesday, July 16 – Thursday, July 18, 2019; 10:00am – 4:30pm
Sliding Scale: $225 – 600. Code TJ1M19.
In this three-day retreat, we will explore the intersection of qigong and Dharma, as two ancient paths up the same mountain.
Through the continuity of meditation in stillness and in motion, we will reconnect with our innate goodness, nourish our sacred intuition, and remember to trust and listen to the wisdom of our Buddhanature. We will learn how the integration of these practices can support empowerment and our capacity for wellbeing, in ourselves and in community.
Together, we will develop skills that can lead to mental clarity, vibrant health, and a peaceful heart and spirit. Practices will include standing, sitting, and supine qigong postures, as well as energy alignment. Each day will include periods of guided and silent meditation practice, integrated movement, Dharma teachings, and opportunities for in-depth instruction in a non-judgmental, supportive environment.
All levels of meditation and qigong experience welcome!

The lottery is now OPEN and will close at 5pm on Sunday, June 16.

Loving Awareness, practiced as mindfulness and metta, is the gateway to liberation. During this meditation retreat, as experienced practitioners, we will join together to quiet the mind, open the heart, and see our human life with the eyes of wisdom. This is a newer retreat format in which we will continue our traditional alternating periods of sitting, walking, guided meditations; and add in daily periods of dialogue where we are engaged in Q & A sessions with the teachers and the group of practitioners attending the retreat.
Financial assistance is available for all Spirit Rock residential retreats. Our scholarship rate is $40/night and available for all those with financial hardship with special funds allocated to People of Color (POC), folks with serious medical conditions, and young adults (age 18-26). Scholarships are budgeted per retreat and we receive a greater number of requests for funding than we have funds to offer.
The lottery is now open and will close at 5pm on June 16. No preference is given to when you apply within this period.
Pre-requisite details: You must have completed this pre-requisite before registering for this retreat. Workshop-style / non-silent retreats do not qualify toward the retreat pre-requisite. This pre-requisite is at the request of the teachers.
All applicants must apply online. Please call us if you do not have access to a computer. No retreat fees will be collected at this time, it is purely registration for the lottery portion of the process. If you need scholarship funds to attend, please be sure to request those funds by selecting one of the scholarship options during the registration process. Selecting this option will not affect your chances of getting in, so we encourage you to apply if you truly have a financial need. Scholarships may not be available later.
After the lottery closes, applicants will be notified by email of their status no later than June 28; please refrain from calling before this deadline. If you are selected in the lottery, you will be sent an email with a special link to register and pay your retreat fees online. If you end up on a waiting list, you will be notified of your position on the list. ~Thank you for your practice of patience!
Also, please remember that the cost above is priced as a sliding scale. Please consider paying at the highest level of the sliding scale that you can afford. This allows others who need to pay less the opportunity to attend. Fee is for room and board. Teaching and staffing of the retreats is by donation at the end of the retreat. This silent retreat will focus on cultivating the quality of loving kindness (metta in Pali), infusing our hearts, minds and bodies with a strong caring wisdom. Mindful presence and loving kindness are essential to living a spiritual life. Awareness as developed through mindfulness practice leads to clarity, insight and understanding. Loving kindness practices open the heart, allow a kind embrace of ourselves, and connect us intimately with all of life. The fusion of these qualities helps us to respond more compassionately to the challenges that we encounter in ourselves and in the world.
Qigong is a practice of aligning breath, movement, and awareness for exercise, healing, and meditation. With roots in Chinese medicine, martial arts, and philosophy, qigong is traditionally viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance (chi) or what has been translated as ‘intrinsic life energy.’ It recognizes, cultivates and nourishes the ‘energy’ aspect of our being. Qigong perfectly complements traditional sitting meditation practice and has a long and well-established history connected to contemplative traditions. On this retreat the loving kindness practices will be supported by periods of guided instruction as well as Qigong meditation, and regular meetings with the teachers. All are welcome to attend!
