The training is open to everyone, but is designed for experienced practitioners from either mindfulness or Yoga traditions who aspire to integrate Dharma and Yoga in their practice. Special focus will be placed on integrating mindfulness into Yoga āsana practice and teaching.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
This yearlong Dharma and Yoga certificate program integrates Buddhist wisdom teachings and meditation practice with āsana, prāṇāyāma, and somatic movement. In the teaching of Yoga and embodied meditation, Dharma and Yoga are interwoven as one path to awakening. The training includes silent retreat, community connection, and structured support for deepening your personal practice. Our approach is centered on accessible and trauma-informed practices that nourish belonging and provide systematic grounding in the essential practices of these two great traditions.
This program offers 175 CEUs for Yoga teachers through Yoga Alliance.
Important Note: The program does not certify Yoga teachers to lead Insight Meditation courses, daylongs, or retreats, which require further training.
Participants will:
- Gain skills and understanding in the foundational teachings and practices of Dharma and Insight Meditation
- Advance personal practice and teaching skills in Yoga āsana
- Learn practice and teaching methods that support a loving connection to embodiment, honoring of boundaries, and a sense of belonging
- Refine techniques to support all bodies in āsana
- Gain understanding of how trauma impacts embodied experience
PROGRAM INCLUDES:
- 3 retreats (two residential, one non-residential hybrid)
- Optional affinity groups
- Small groups
- Written assignments/reflections
- Q&A sessions in between retreats (every other month)
COMMITMENT TO BELONGING AND SANGHA BUILDING
We are committed to creating a DYMT community of practitioners from diverse backgrounds and cultures—a mix of gender identities, ethnicities, socio-economic status, sexual orientations, ages, and abilities—who will support each other’s Dharma and Yoga practice(s). We invite participants who are dedicated to creating communities of belonging and spiritual friendship.
PROGRAMS COMPONENTS & REQUIREMENTS
- Full attendance at both 6-night in-person residential retreats as well as the 5-day non-residential hybrid retreat (participants can attend the hybrid retreat in-person or online)
- Attendance for and completion of the curriculum offered online between retreats. This will include study, practice, and connection with peers in small groups
PARTICIPATION AGREEMENTS
To get the most out of this training and to support both the Sangha and the container, we ask that you commit to the following:

- Honor the needs of your body during our in-person and online movement sessions and communicate with the teaching team if further support is needed
- Maintain a willingness and capacity to interact and engage respectfully with people with different histories, stories, backgrounds, and views than your own
RETREAT FORMAT
The retreats will include periods of silence in meditation, mindful movement, time on the land, and meals. This will be combined with interactive workshop-style sessions—including discussion, small group learning, and Q&A— focused on advancing understanding and skills in the integration of Dharma and Yoga āsana. There will also be time for social connection and Saṇgha building.

DESCRIPTION
Deepen your understanding of meditation and nourish your work with clients in this five-month training designed for clinicians, counselors, mindfulness teachers, and others providing mental health support. In this training, you’ll join a community of peers for an in-depth exploration of mindfulness, Dharma, and science that will support both your personal practice and your work with others.
This program is designed with mental health professionals in mind, but is open to anyone with a sincere interest in the integration of Buddhism and psychological science.
Through periods of meditation, Dharma talks, discussion, small group explorations and clinical case studies, you will develop greater confidence in applying mindfulness-based interventions with clients, deepen your understanding of the intersections of Buddhism and psychology, and further cultivate your own meditation practice and tools for self-care.
This training includes an experiential investigation of our own life and practice as well as our roles as clinicians. It is ideal for people who want to explore their own minds and hearts as a springboard into best serving their clients, rather than those who are primarily seeking coaching on the implementation of mindfulness-based treatment manuals.
As counselors we know that only when one has truly made oneself a patient can one become a healer. Through our practice, we become the patient and come to understand, affirm, and ultimately, transform ourselves. It is this transformation that ripples outwards to our clients and community. This training brings both sides of ourselves—the patient and the healer—together as we practice and learn together.
The training will provide an immersion in Buddhist psychology and the meditation practices that illuminate our minds, foster goodness, and transform habits that compound suffering. We’ll dive into the scientific research on mindfulness and its increasing prominence in psychotherapeutic interventions, and explore data regarding the efficacy of mindfulness and the mechanisms through which mindfulness confers its benefits. The training will examine the convergences and tensions between clinical research and Buddhist psychology and describe ways to integrate mindfulness into treatment. We’ll consider possible contraindications of mindfulness and how to tailor the intervention to individuals. Please join us.

DESCRIPTION
This year-long program, based on the book A Year to Live by Stephen Levine, is designed for people of all ages and life stages. In community, we will focus on waking up and living life more fully through the exploration of death as spiritual practice.
In our largely death-denying modern culture, few are encouraged to actively contemplate the inevitability of our death, or the idea that it could happen at any time. The Buddha recommended that we do just that, not to frighten us, but rather to use death as an object of contemplation to help us awaken to the fragile, fleeting, and precious nature of our lives.
Ultimately, this is a year-long practice in forgiveness, gratitude, and letting go. Through guided meditations, inquiry, and small group discussions, we will be guided through a process of living this year as if it were our last. All are warmly welcome!

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
In these uncertain times, where much of life is lived virtually, it is essential we stay connected to our bodies, senses and to the earth to access wisdom and perspective.
Like the Buddha, people for millennia have sought refuge, peace and wisdom in the natural world. On this nature meditation training program, you will explore potent nature-based awareness and heart based meditations that open you to joy, insight and peace.
During the program, you will immerse in the beautiful landscapes of Spirit Rock while cultivating a receptive, embodied mindful attention. This allows openness to receive nature’s wisdom teachings, including about impermanence, selflessness and the inter-connection of all life. You will explore how nature evokes profound insight, transformation and helps bring forth inspired ecological action.
On each daylong, there will be a variety of nature-based sitting and movement practices, talks and group discussion. There will also be encouragement for home practice. Be prepared for unexpected delight,
Program Includes
- 4 in-person daylong retreats (all non-residential)
- Small groups (optional, self-facilitated – meet in between large group sessions)

Teachings are appropriate for health care professionals as well as the general public. Health care providers often face high levels of stress and burnout. Meditation and mindfulness practices have been shown to reduce stress and enhance overall well-being. RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Description:
This silent retreat will focus on cultivating the quality of lovingkindness (mettā in Pāli), infusing our hearts, minds, and bodies with a strong, caring wisdom. Awareness as developed through mindfulness practice leads to clarity, insight, and understanding. Lovingkindness practices open the heart, allow a kind embrace of ourselves, and connect us intimately with all of life. The fusion of these qualities helps us to respond more compassionately to the challenges that we encounter in ourselves and in the world.
Qigong is a practice of aligning breath, movement, and awareness for exercise, healing, and meditation. Qigong perfectly complements traditional sitting meditation practice and has a long and well-established connection to contemplative traditions. On this retreat the lovingkindness practices will be supported by periods of guided instruction as well as Qigong, meditation, and regular meetings with the teachers. All are welcome.
This retreat is silent except for teacher-led Q&A, small groups, or other practice meetings.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Scholarship offerings: In returning to the land, we returned to our pre-pandemic scholarship options and policies. All scholarship rates require a minimum fee ($55/night). Scholarships are limited to TWO per calendar year for on-land retreats. And, while we are not able to offer “no one turned away”-type of scholarships for in-person retreats, they are still available for online offerings.
Hemera Fellowships – are you eligible? Learn more…
Room Occupancy Update*: Starting March 27, 2022, we returned to double and single occupancy rooms. Many of our rooms are single occupancy (only 16 of 80 rooms are double occupancy). We have also returned to offering a “guaranteed single room” rate; these rates are limited (16). This rate guarantees a single room while helping to support scholarships and all we do here at Spirit Rock. The remaining single rooms are not exclusive to the top end of the sliding scale; however, they are initially prioritized for those with serious medical needs.
*Subject to change depending upon COVID-19 situation.

Description:
The Dharma & Recovery group explores the intersection of recovery with Buddhist teachings and practices. We welcome all people who identify with any of the full range of addictions, from substances, to behaviors, to habitual thought and emotional patterns.
This is not a 12-Step group, but we look to ways that members of the community can support each other on the path of recovery. Each gathering begins with a period of guided meditation, and new meditators are welcome. There is time for discussion about meditation practice and a recovery/Dharma theme each month.
Online: We are offering this program online via Zoom for you to join us remotely.

Description:
In a world grappling with multiple crises and an uncertain future, it can feel overwhelming to navigate such challenges with an open heart. However, it is precisely during such times that we must tap into our inner spaciousness and discover our purpose for these times. This daylong will invite participants into a felt sense of contemplative practice that leads to action and allows us to engage with the world wholeheartedly. We will draw inspiration from contemporary Buddhist and Christian saints and bodhisattvas such as Thich Nhat Hanh, bell hooks, Desmond Tutu, Dorothy Day, Howard Thurman, and Mahagosananda. Their wisdom offers valuable insights into cultivating fearlessness and compassion.
Through meditation, prayer, and intimate conversations, we will connect with the “mystic heart,” where the teachings of Buddha and Christ converge. In this sacred space, we will explore our unique callings and discern how to meet these times with compassion, resilience, and purpose.
All are welcome! No one will be turned away for lack of funds as space allows. For more information, please email Registration@spiritrock.org.

Evening Program to be held on the land! Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
Description:
The great love, joy and sacred light that this season celebrates are found within our own hearts. We will use the powerful and sublime blend of chanting and meditation to carry us from the frenzy of “holiday mind” to the ocean of the awakened heart. This uplifting evening will include chanting (call and response) and meditation. We will conclude with a beautiful candlelight ritual to honor the winter solstice.
We’ll feel the nourishment of interconnection as we practice and pray together for the healing of our world. We’ll also share the innate joy that is uncovered when we chant together (and dance if wanted).
We are very happy to offer this special 3-hour program in person for the first time since the pandemic started and hope you can join us!

RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Description:
Our path of practice leads to a destination: peace. Can we engage with practice such that our attitude along the path embodies the qualities of the destination? Can we approach every moment of awareness with ease, so that we are continuously cultivating goodwill and release? Can we avoid the pitfall of the practice becoming a struggle, or worse, a grim duty? Can we mindfully nourish our minds and hearts with the wholesome happiness available on the path?
We will explore integrating attitudes of peace, ease, release, friendliness, and well-being into the fabric of every moment on and off the cushion, in service of awakening for the sake of all beings and ourselves.
IMPORTANT NOTES:

RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Description:
When we open to the reciprocity of forgiveness, we also enter into an awareness practice that presences understanding, wisdom, and compassion. The complexities of conditioned experience often compel us to defend rather than open our hearts. Forgiveness practice can be the medicine we need to lessen the tight grip of past trauma, grief, fear, anger, judgment, and wounds on ourselves and others. The courage to witness what we hold fast to has the potential to lead us on a journey towards liberation and true freedom.
Join us in exploring how cultivating the spirit of forgiveness, as a heart practice, allows for a reclaiming of our true loving nature. We will explore the practices of forgiveness and letting go, with the primary support of mindfulness, kindness, compassion, equanimity, and gratitude.

Applications received after the close date are automatically placed on the wait list (and will not be included in the first round of selections). Notification rounds can move quickly in the first few weeks following the first acceptances, so we recommend staying ready. You may be accepted sooner than you realize!
You will be notified about the selection results within two weeks of the application close date. If you have been offered a space, you will have two days to pay a deposit to accept/hold the space. If you don’t accept the space within this deadline, we will offer it to the next person in line.

Selection Details:
Applications are accepted between 08/07/23 – 08/28/23. All applications are assigned a random number. Together with the random number we are balancing many additional variables to create equity, diversity, inclusion, and access. Those factors include: scholarship needs & availability, affinity group “membership”, age, gender balance, and experienced or new practitioners.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Scholarship offerings: All scholarship rates require a minimum fee ($55/night). Scholarships are limited to TWO per calendar year for on-land retreats. And, while we are not able to offer “pay what you can”-type of scholarships for in-person retreats, they are still available for online offerings as space allows.
Room Occupancy Update*: We have double and single occupancy rooms. Many of our rooms are single occupancy (only 16 of 80 rooms are double occupancy). We offer a “guaranteed single room” rate and these will be limited (16).

We’ve completed another circle around the sun. It is a moment to celebrate, enjoy each other’s company, and honor the ways that time—and everything else—slips through our fingers. Please join us as we reflect on this past year, on the timelessness of the Dharma, and imagine a future that reflects our deepest aspirations. We’ll dwell in the safety and reassurance of 2,600+ years of lineage as we collectively feel the longing to be free. We gather to release what no longer serves, bow to what is beautiful in each of us, and consider our roles as midwives of goodness.
This will be the first time in several years we’ve had the option to gather for NYE in person. Expect Dharma reflections, ritual, chanting, community, and dancing to fantastic music. Bring your whole heart as our global Saṅgha connects one more time in 2023. All are welcome for this joyous celebration.
On-Land space is limited and pre-registration is required. Please register for the In-person event only if you can join us on the land. If you can only join us remotely online, please register for the Online version and you can participate by Zoom or watch the program later.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
This online certificate training program is open to and designed for leaders and aspiring leaders in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. We will cultivate mindful and compassionate leadership skills and practices to embody our care for ourselves and others, with a mindset of service to community and the world.
A core, distinct pedagogical approach of this program is participating in and co-learning with a supportive community of like-minded peers both in the large group and small monthly pod meetings. Through lectures, group discussion, guided meditations, readings, reflections, experiential exercises, and personal meditation practice, we will cultivate skills and behaviors that can be applied directly to our personal and professional lives. By developing and incorporating these intentional practices, we will strengthen professional relationships and workplace environments, expanding impact beyond our own learning for the broader benefit of our work and organization(s).

- Home practices, readings, and reflections
PLEASE READ: Location, Accessibility Requirements, What to Bring, Restrooms
The entirety of this program will be held outdoors at Spirit Rock in the Hermitage Meadow, located above the main Retreat Hall in the upper campus. Participants should be able to hike on inclined and uneven terrain and trails. You will need to carry all the items that you will need for the day, so please consider using a backpack.
Meals are not included, so please pack a lunch (and snacks, optional) and bring a water bottle. We recommend sturdy, closed-toe shoes with some tread as you may be on and off trails. Our beautiful land is home to turkeys, deer, and lizards, as well as ticks, bees, wasps, and snakes, including rattlesnakes. Note that restrooms will be a moderate hike away, in the Community Meditation Center.

Teachings are appropriate for health care professionals as well as the general public. Health care providers often face high levels of stress and burnout. Meditation and mindfulness practices have been shown to reduce stress and enhance overall well-being. Training in nature-based mindfulness can enhance a provider’s ability to incorporate these practices into their work, promoting better patient experiences and outcomes. Studies have shown that both mindfulness practices and visiting natural environments can reduce both physical and psychological stress. The immersive experience in nature, and encouragement for home practice promotes self-care for health care providers, and can be utilized in a clinical setting.
Learning Objectives for participating health care professionals-
At the end of the program you will better able to:
- Utilize techniques to cultivate self-care through connecting with the natural world, in preparation for or when working with clients;
- Utilize a mindfulness technique for cultivating joy, that may used to reduce emotional exhaustion;
- Describe mindfulness and nature-based practices that can aid in reducing client stress levels;
- Describe engaging in nature-based practices fosters resilience, promoting an increased sense of ease and joy;
- Describe the psychological ramifications of prevalent online-centric lifestyles, emphasizing the advantages of reconnecting with the body, senses, and nature;
- Utilize nature-based mindfulness practices to incorporate the concept of impermanence in therapeutic interactions, in ways that may be used to reduce anxiety or fear;
- Describe a mindfulness practice within a natural setting that encourages radical acceptance, offering a valuable tool for diminishing self-critical tendencies;
- Describe the transformative impact of being present in nature to cultivate equanimity and resilience through an interconnectedness with, and understanding of the natural world.

Join us to celebrate the arrival of 2024 with the New Year Team—Sylvia Boorstein (a founding Spirit Rock teacher), Brahmani Liebman (Kripalu Yoga Teacher, Trainer & Mindful Movement Teacher), Barbara Bogatin (San Francisco Symphony cellist) and Barbara Borden (Drums, Percussion, The Keeper of the Beat)—as we individually and collectively respond to the fundamental question, “What, in challenging times, keeps the mind alert and buoyant, and the heart hopeful and generous?”
Together we’ll explore the practices that sustained us through the last year and the lessons we learned that we hope to carry forward with us. We’ll share stories, Dharma, meditation instructions and practice periods, guided mindful movement, and music. Please join us to, as the Buddha said, “Move into the future with confidence.”

This daylong online retreat will explore mindfulness along with body and breath to develop concentration in three traditional modes: momentary concentration, access concentration, and absorptive concentration (jhāna). Through guided meditation, we will work to settle restless thinking, focus the mind, overcome distraction, and cultivate calm attention. Throughout this process, Shaila will share insights and techniques gleaned from her extensive experience with jhāna practice, and together we will explore the roles of concentration, samādhi, and jhāna on the liberating path. This program is appropriate for both new and experienced practitioners.

Description:
Using neuroscience and Buddhist psychology, this program will help you uncover the hindrances and pathways to your own financial well-being. Since we often bring less mindfulness to financial matters than we do to other areas of our life, it is an arena in which we can find tremendous opportunities for transformation. Through interactive exercises and the power of a supportive community, we’ll explore topics such as resilience, sympathetic joy, generosity, and cultivating a mindset of “enough.”
Regardless of your financial advantages or challenges, it’s possible to shift from fear, confusion, and avoidance, to clarity, confidence, and engagement. Together, we will loosen our inherited beliefs, gain new perspectives, and experience the paradox of how letting go offers a path toward abundance. This daylong retreat invites you to explore your authentic relationship to money, independent of cultural and familial conditioning, and to use the day to make real-life decisions within a spacious, non-judgmental container.

RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Description:
Mettā, or lovingkindness practice, is the cultivation of the intention of benevolence as the orientation of our heart and mind. It is also a path to wisdom. Through meditation, which is practiced steadfastly on retreat, we develop our capacity for mettā in order for it to manifest in an ongoing way in our daily lives.
In this retreat, we will learn the formal practice of mettā along with its companion practices of compassion, joy, and equanimity. All four of these practices—known as the brahmavihāras or divine abodes—strengthen self-confidence, self-acceptance, and steadiness of mind and heart, while revealing our fundamental disposition toward kindness. We will be joined on one day of the retreat by Sylvia Boorstein, a beloved long-time teacher of mettā.

This is not a 12-Step group, but we look to ways that members of the community can support each other on the path of recovery. Each gathering begins with a period of guided meditation, and new meditators are welcome. There is time for discussion about meditation practice and a recovery/Dharma theme each month.

Description:
In our current global situation and personal life challenges, anxiety is a natural reaction. However, our bodies are not designed for chronic stress, and it can derail our well-being and disconnect us from our hearts.
Our daylong will weave Dharma wisdom and meditation with mindful movement and gentle breathing techniques. The embodied practices will release chronic tension, regulate our nervous systems, and calm reactivity. This process of resourcing will reconnect us with the wisdom of the body and restore trust in our body’s ability to self-regulate. Our meditations will center heart practices, or Brahma Viharas, to cultivate a kinder, more spacious relationship with ourselves. We may come to know anxiety as a teacher—one that deepens mindful awareness and a tender connection to our inner states.
All abilities and levels of experience are welcome.

RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Description:
Insight Meditation is a simple and direct practice based on moment-to-moment awareness, a technique that opens the heart and clears the mind. This retreat offers an opportunity to practice continuous mindfulness in silence throughout the day, in both sitting and walking meditation. In the silence, we are freed from much of the daily barrage of stimulus that draws our attention outward, letting us delve deeply inward. Learning to be aware of our experience from a place of equanimity allows us to see more clearly, such that compassion and wisdom can arise.
This retreat is designed for beginners and experienced practitioners alike and will include meditation instruction, Dharma talks, chanting, and discussion time with the teachers.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Scholarship offerings: All scholarship rates require a minimum fee ($60/night). Scholarships are limited to TWO per calendar year for on-land retreats. And, while we are not able to offer “pay what you can”-type of scholarships for in-person retreats, they are still available for online offerings as space allows.
Hemera Fellowships for Residential Retreats – are you eligible and a first-time retreatant? Learn more details…
Room Occupancy*: We have double and single occupancy rooms. Many of our rooms are single occupancy (only 16 of 80 rooms are double occupancy). We offer a “guaranteed single room” rate and these will be limited (16). This rate guarantees a single room while helping to support scholarships and all we do here at Spirit Rock. The remaining single rooms are not exclusive to the top end of the sliding scale; however, they are initially prioritized for those with serious medical needs.
*Subject to change depending upon COVID-19 situation.

In a profession where deadlines are constant and demands from clients and colleagues are ceaseless, opportunities to be quiet are rare. They can even seem self-indulgent, although they are essential for sustainability and balance. Give yourself permission to be still for a day and allow your body, mind, heart, and nervous system to settle and recalibrate. This daylong meditation retreat is open to lawyers, law students, and other legal professionals. Both beginning and experienced meditators are welcome.

RETREAT TO BE HELD ON THE LAND!
Description:
When the late Burmese master Mingun Sayādaw (U Nārada) was a young monk looking for a true teacher, he was told of a mountain hermit who was reported to be fully enlightened. When he asked this monk how he should practice, the monk replied, “Why are you searching outside of the Master’s word?” He went on to say that the direct path—the foundations of mindfulness—was given by the Buddha for those seeking liberation. Mingun Sayādaw followed these instructions with great faith and diligence and realized for himself the path and its fruit.
Mindfulness based in the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta (“The Discourse on the Foundations of Mindfulness”) is the heart of Insight Meditation practice. In this retreat we will follow the “words of the master” and the example of the great teachers of our tradition in practicing the way of mindfulness, which is always here and now and offers each of us a direct path to liberation.

Description:
Change is normal and necessary, but often we are unprepared to manage it skillfully. Research shows that meeting change with mindfulness and having specific tools to navigate uncertainty allows us to experience well-being even when life is challenging.
Change naturally brings up concerns, fears, and questions that can lead to confusion, lack of motivation, or poor decisions. To help you effectively respond to these challenges, during this workshop participants will have the opportunity to:
- Use our “Journey through Change Map” to orient yourself in your change;
- Recognize mind habits that undermine you and learn practices to disengage from them;
- Identify your values and intentions so you have a basis for making wise decisions;
- Create a plan for navigating your change.
Expect a weekend full of dynamic inquiry and the opportunity to learn essential life skills for meeting your changes and transitions with authenticity, confidence, and clarity.
Your commitment to attend all sessions is important and required. If you are unable to attend any part of these sessions, we ask you to consider joining at another time when you can be fully present.

- Utilize techniques to cultivate self-care through connecting with the natural world, in preparation for or when working with clients;
- Utilize a mindfulness technique for cultivating joy, that may used to reduce emotional exhaustion;
- Describe mindfulness and nature-based practices that can aid in reducing client stress levels;
- Describe engaging in nature-based practices fosters resilience, promoting an increased sense of ease and joy;
- Describe the psychological ramifications of prevalent online-centric lifestyles, emphasizing the advantages of reconnecting with the body, senses, and nature;
- Utilize nature-based mindfulness practices to incorporate the concept of impermanence in therapeutic interactions, in ways that may be used to reduce anxiety or fear;

Retreat 3: Residential retreat June 5, 2025 to June 12, 2025
PROGRAM PREREQUISITES:
- Full attendance at both 6-night in-person residential retreats, as well as the 5-day non-residential hybrid retreat (participants can attend the hybrid retreat in-person or online)

- Q&A sessions: 75 minutes every other month live via Zoom (highly recommended but not required, and will be recorded)

March
“The Still Heart of Awareness”
Awareness, or consciousness, is the very heart of sentient life, the faculty that reveals all the events of our experience. Yet in our dharma practice we may not have learned how to meditate directly on this fundamental aspect of our minds.
In this retreat we will explore the nature of awareness in three stages. We’ll begin by developing greater stability of mind through mindfulness of breathing. Next we’ll introduce a regular practice of lovingkindness, allowing the beautiful and responsive qualities of heart to unfold. Then, with these foundations, we’ll start to explore the nature of awareness, this mysterious capacity of knowing. These practices open the door to emptiness, profound understanding, and great freedom.
Special Note for 2024: When registering for the 2-Month retreat, please be aware that the March retreat will feature very different themes from the February retreat in the meditation instructions and talks, unlike in prior years. Please read the descriptions carefully for both months before registering. Participants in March will be expected to follow the instructions as offered for that retreat. If you are not interested, the teachers kindly ask that you not sign up for this retreat.

- Utilize techniques to cultivate self-care through connecting with the natural world, in preparation for or when working with clients;
- Utilize a mindfulness technique for cultivating joy, that may used to reduce emotional exhaustion;
- Describe mindfulness and nature-based practices that can aid in reducing client stress levels;
- Describe engaging in nature-based practices fosters resilience, promoting an increased sense of ease and joy;
- Describe the psychological ramifications of prevalent online-centric lifestyles, emphasizing the advantages of reconnecting with the body, senses, and nature;
- Utilize nature-based mindfulness practices to incorporate the concept of impermanence in therapeutic interactions, in ways that may be used to reduce anxiety or fear;
- Describe a mindfulness practice within a natural setting that encourages radical acceptance, offering a valuable tool for diminishing self-critical tendencies;
- Describe the transformative impact of being present in nature to cultivate equanimity and resilience through an interconnectedness with, and understanding of the natural world.

PROGRAM INCLUDES
- Format: Online
- Teachings: Monthly (12) large group sessions (recorded)
- Community support: Monthly (12), self-organized home group sessions with home group sangha (required, each group will determine a time that works for everyone during the January session)

- Home practice: Guided meditations, readings, reflections (estimated 5-7 hours/month + monthly home groups + daily meditation)
- Access: Video and audio recordings

Participants will:

- Advance personal practice and teaching skills in Yoga āsana
- Learn practice and teaching methods that support a loving connection to embodiment, honoring of boundaries, and a sense of belonging
- Refine techniques to support all bodies in āsana

Instruction will follow the traditional four foundations of mindfulness, combined with training in lovingkindness and compassion, through a daily schedule of silent sitting, walking, Dharma talks, and practice meetings with teachers.
