Retreat Description:
The Abhayagiri Teen Retreat is designed to support teens in accessing their innate wisdom and cultivating positive mind states that lead to increasing health and well-being. Through guided meditations and mindful relational practices, teens will be introduced to practices that calm and steady the mind, increase self-awareness, support making wise-life choices. In addition, teens must commit to the five mindfulness trainings (sila), the non-harming practices that create a safe space for authentic connection with themselves and their peers. Don’t miss this rare and precious practice opportunity for teens, ages 13 – 19 years old.
We will travel from Spirit Rock to Abhayagiri Monastery in Redwood Valley, Mendocino County, for a weekend of camping and practice with the Abhayagiri Monastic Community. Teens participate in the monastic schedule, which includes periods of meditation and chanting, working and hiking on the land, and teachings from the monastics.
Although there is no registration fee, a minimum $200 deposit is required to reserve a space in this retreat. We have determined that the deposit is necessary to ensure the registrant’s commitment to attending the retreat, and to reduce last minute cancellations. As this is a dana retreat, you’re welcome to request all or part of your deposit back after the retreat. Offering this retreat on a dana basis makes our monastic retreats accessible to more people. Your generosity and gratitude in the form of a financial contribution, no matter how much, ensures the continuation of this unique and rare opportunity of practice for your teen and future teens.
