Prerequisites: BEFORE applying for this 28-night retreat (either February or March retreat), you must have completed at least 15 nights of silent residential retreat time. This retreat time must include a minimum of two (2) silent retreats and each of these must be five (5) nights or longer. Please note that the 2-Month retreat (56-night retreat) requires 21 nights of silent retreat time with the same criteria. These retreats must have been led by Spirit Rock, IMS, or IRC teachers, or other recognized Insight Meditation teachers. For your retreats to qualify, these previous retreats must be silent retreats and have a similar format to this retreat, with instructions, practices and talks focused on Insight Meditation. You will need to provide the teachers’ names, dates, location, length (# of nights), and style of the retreats when applying.

Retreat Description:
An extended period of retreat offers the rare opportunity for sustained and dedicated practice. This retreat emphasizes quieting the mind, opening the heart, and developing profound clarity and depth of insight practice. Instruction will follow the traditional four foundations of mindfulness, combined with training in loving-kindness and compassion, through a daily schedule of silent sitting, walking, dharma talks and practice meetings with teachers.

These extended retreats (and all retreats at Spirit Rock) are not open for “self-retreats”.

Scholarships:
Special Offering for the month-long retreats only: Spirit Rock is extending the upper age limit of the Young Adult scholarship rate to individuals 18-32 years of age. This special rate is $40 per night. A limited number of special rates will be available.

Additional scholarship funding has been offered once again to support practitioners who self-identify as people of color. Scholarship rates are $40 per night.

Lottery/Application Information:
Our one-month and two-month retreats are extremely popular and in order to create more ease and fairness, we use a lottery process. The lottery is now closed (midnight Saturday, August 31, 2019). We will continue to accept applications on a rolling basis; however, you will be put on a waiting list. If you need scholarship funds to attend, please fill out the Scholarship Section in the application; however, please know that funding may likely not be available after the lottery close date.

People of Color and Young Adult applicants (whether scholarship applicants or not) are given high priority. Applicants who were on the waiting list the last two years in a row and did not get into our month-long retreats will also be given a higher priority. All others will go into the lottery system and be selected at random.

After the lottery closes and selections have been made, lottery applicants will be notified by email of their status no later than the second week in October; please refrain from calling before this deadline. We will need this time to process all the applications, pull the lottery, and allocate scholarship funding. If you are selected in the lottery pull, you will be sent an email with a special link to register and pay your retreat fees online. If you end up on a waiting list, you will be notified of your position on the list.

Work Retreatant (WR) Information for Monthlongs:
If you are interested in a work exchange for one of the month long retreats you must meet the following:
• You must have sat a month long retreat at Spirit Rock prior to this application; which includes meeting the retreat prerequisite: completion of at least 15 nights of silent residential retreat time. This retreat time should include a minimum of two (2) silent retreats and each of these must be five (5) nights or longer.
• You must have completed a WR position at Spirit Rock on at least a 5-night retreat prior to this application.

We will have a lottery pull for the WR positions should more than four (4) apply for these month long positions. Everyone who applies for a WR position, is also required to fill out the month long retreat application. Please indicate on the retreat application that you have also applied for the Work Retreatant position. If you are not interested in attending the retreat unless you get the WR position, please indicate that as well. We will have two WRs for February and two WRs for March, so please indicate the retreat you are interested in. We do not have a WR role for the full two-month retreat. Work Retreatant Details
