The lottery for this retreat is now closed. If you are interested in being a commuter (and you meet the prerequisite) or you would like to add your name to the residential wait list, please submit an application. You will need to choose one or the other. We do receive cancellations for residential spaces close to a retreat start, so the longer you’re able to wait, the better your chances of getting in.

Retreat Description:
Throughout this retreat, open to all, we will practice seeing that dhamma – the true nature of reality – is revealed everywhere. When the mind is clouded by defilements, or negative states such as anger, fear, greed, confusion and ignorance, we are unable to recognize reality accurately because the quality of wisdom is dimmed. When the mind is unclouded, we can recognize the nature of cause and effect and this further strengthens wisdom. Nature is not ‘I,’ not ‘us,’ nor ‘them,’ nor ‘others.’ Whatever happens in the present moment is nature; even defilements become dhamma. If we experience nature as it really is, the mind is free.

Observance of the eight monastic precepts, which include abstaining from eating after noon, will be optional. The schedule will include periods of open group sittings.

Financial assistance is available for all Spirit Rock residential retreats. Our scholarship rate is $40/night and available for all those with financial hardship with special funds allocated to People of Color (POC), folks with serious medical conditions, and young adults (age 18-26). Scholarships are budgeted per retreat and we receive a greater number of requests for scholarships than we have funds to offer; therefore, we cannot guarantee everyone will have the opportunity to receive funding.

Lottery Details:
The lottery is now open (January 14, 2020), and will close February 11, 2020 by 5:00 p.m. PT. You DO NOT need to register on the first day as lottery registrations will be available for approximately 30 days. No preference is given to when you apply within this period even if you need scholarship funding. Be sure to select a scholarship option during the application process, if you will need financial support to attend. All applicants must apply online. Please call us if you do not have access to a computer. No retreat fees will be collected at this time, it is purely registration for the lottery portion of the process.

After the lottery closes, applicants will be notified by email of their status no later than two weeks after the lottery closes; please refrain from calling before this deadline. If you are selected in the lottery, you will be sent an email with a special link to register and pay your retreat fees online. If you end up on a waiting list, you will be notified of your position on the list. ~Thank you for your practice of patience!
