At the beginning of our practice of mindfulness, we don’t know what to expect. Over time we discover, sometimes unexpectedly, qualities of heart and mind that are hidden from us or buried deep inside that mindfulness calls forth. These hidden qualities are precious treasures; once we discover them, they bring confidence and stability to our meditation practice. In this way, our inner exploration is very similar to a treasure hunt. As we shine the light of awareness on our experience, the treasures reveal themselves. We see that there is actually a treasure map which was documented for us by the Buddha and traveled by countless practitioners over thousands of years.
This 3-day immersion in exploring these seven treasures (often called the “factors of awakening”) is a wonderful opportunity to recognize the seeds of liberation, which are present in our own mind. No one else’s mind can enlighten us, only our own. That is why our mind is likened to “the Buddha within.” The Buddha’s final teaching was: “You are the light. You are the refuge. There is nowhere to take refuge but yourself.” Recognizing the presence of these seven treasures in our experience brings the truth of this home.
Young Adults (18-26) and Seniors (65+ with limited income) are invited to attend this program for $135 ($45/day).
