Description:
Come join in community at the culmination of a weeklong gathering of Buddhist Teachers of Black African descent.

We’ll open our doors and hearts to welcome practitioners of Black African descent for a weekend retreat of dharma talks, panel discussions, chanting, silent meditation and walking practices, accessible to all bodies. Saturday evening will be an extraordinary event featuring scholar and activist, Angela Davis, and other distinguished guests, followed by music and joyous celebration. Bear witness to this momentous event in the unfolding of American Buddhism. We’ll weave a rich fabric of traditions, lineages, approaches, and ways into one single cloth of liberatory teachings. You won’t want to miss this!

Guided meditation,walking meditation, discussion, breakout groups, Q&A, outdoor activities. Please bring your own brown bag lunch on Saturday and Sunday. Dinner served Saturday evening only.

Free round-trip shuttle service to the East Bay will be provided. Shuttle service will be from the MacArthur BART station located at 555 40th St, Oakland, CA 94609. Please be sure to register online for this event and let us know during the registration process whether you need shuttle service.

    Myokei Caine-Barrett

    Myokei Caine-Barrett, Shonin, first encountered Buddhism in 1963. She has been practicing the Lotus Sutra ever since. In 2002 she began training to become a priest. She became head priest and guiding teacher of the Nichiren Buddhist Sangha of Texas in Houston, also known as Moken-ji Temple, in 2007. Myokei Caine-Barrett has active prison and hospice ministries, and is deeply committed to healing our culture. She is currently bishop of the Nichiren Shu Order of North America.
