Event Details

Dates: Friday, June 5, 3:00pm – Wednesday, June 10, 11:30am; 5 nights.
Registration Fee: $150, PLUS a donation to the teachers and retreat staff — see details below. Code 358R20.

This retreat is full. If you are interested in being a commuter (and you meet the prerequisite) or you would like to add your name to the residential wait list, please submit an application. You will need to choose one or the other. We do receive cancellations for residential spaces close to a retreat start, so the longer you’re able to wait, the better your chances of getting in.

Often, our retreats sell out quickly. Thank you for accepting whatever situation you find yourself in. If you end up missing a residential spot in the retreat, we highly recommend that you get on the waiting list as soon as possible by submitting a form. Know that there will be changes and cancellations over the next 4 months until opening day. A limited number of commuter spots will be available for those that meet the prerequisite for commuting.

If you are interested and need financial assistance, we may have a work exchange available.

Retreat Description:
During this retreat, we will be exploring the break-through moments of the awakened nuns of the Buddha’s time. These women came from all walks of life, and their realizations took many forms. Exploring these teachings connects us to the challenges and opportunities of our own lives, and the ways these insights are relevant to us today.

This retreat is open to all genders.

Please Note: Retreatants are encouraged to keep 8 Precepts for the entire length of this retreat. For those who choose not to keep the 6th Precept, a light supper will be available.
The Eight Precepts:
1. Not intentionally killing or harming any living creatures.
2. Not stealing, or concerning oneself with the possessions of others.
3. Not engaging in sexual activity of any kind.
4. Not lying or using speech harmfully. (On retreat this precept is usually observed as Noble Silence–keeping the silence unless there is a practical necessity to speak.)
5. Not taking intoxicating drink or drugs.
6. Not eating after mid-day. (Optional)
7. Not seeking amusements or wearing special bodily adornment. (On retreat one dresses and acts in a modest and restrained manner.)
8. Not using sleep indulgently.

*For those who choose not to keep the 6th Precept, a light supper will be available. We will not be providing for food preferences or dietary restrictions.

Registration Fee & Cancellation Policy:

A $150 registration fee is required to reserve a space in this retreat. A retreat of this length would normally cost $650. This registration fee is a discounted rate for this monastic retreat and covers a portion of the “value of the goods and services received” by attending this retreat. This discounted rate is not tax-deductible. You will have the opportunity at the end of the retreat to make additional offerings to Spirit Rock — offerings to Spirit Rock totaling more than $650 are tax-deductible.

On the last day of the retreat, participants will be invited to offer dana or make offerings in three categories: support for the retreat teachers, support for the retreat cooks and retreat managers, and support for Spirit Rock. The word “dana” means generosity and simply translates into a heartfelt donation. Your support offered to the teachers, retreat staff, and to Spirit Rock will help us continue to offer this unique annual monastic retreat and everything we do here.

Cancellation policy for this retreat:
If you cancel >4 weeks (May 8), we will offer you a full refund.
$150 cancellation fee, if you cancel 2-4 weeks before the retreat (between May 9-23).
No refunds after 5pm PT May 23 (2 weeks or less).

Also, please remember that the cost above is priced as a sliding scale. Please consider paying at the highest level of the sliding scale that you can afford. This allows others who need to pay less the opportunity to attend. Fee is for room and board. Teaching and staffing of the retreats is by donation at the end of the retreat.
